Wind remains a threat for shoreline flooding as Okanagan Lake slowly recedes through late July

-

— Water levels are receding, but wind still poses a flood threat to lakefront properties in the Interior.

Central Okanagan Emergency Operations says Okanagan Lake dropped about two centimetres overnight but remained 66 centimetres above normal on Thursday morning.

Environment Canada has forecast winds of up to 30 kilometres an hour in the coming days, which could whip up waves.

Property owners have been asked to continue monitoring and adjusting flood protection measures. Officials say Okanagan Lake will not return to normal until the end of July.

Some of the two million sandbags that were used since early May are slowly being removed as upland creeks and streams around Kelowna and through Lake Country are no longer at risk of flooding.
