Police are seeking witnesses after a man was attacked with a weapon in New Westminster’s Moody Park this week.

The attack took place Wednesday around 4 p.m. near the park’s northeast baseball diamond.

A 27-year-old man was approached by two other men who punched and kicked him multiple times, police said. The pair also allegedly hit the victim using a weapon.

Sgt. Jeff Scott with the New Westminster Police said it’s believed to be a targeted assault and that the attackers may be known to the victim. There is no threat to the public, he said.

“The victim was transported to the hospital and received stitches for his head wound,” said Scott.

“At the time of the assault the surrounding area would have been busy with motorists and park goers and we’re appealing for anyone that can assist with the police investigation to come forward.”

Anyone with information about the incident or the suspects is asked to contact investigators at 604-5255411. sip@postmedia.com twitter.com/stephanie_ip
