S.S. Legacy sails Rivers of Adventure
Weeklong excursion up the Columbia and Snake rivers includes jet boat ride into Hells Canyon
Seattle-based UnCruise Adventures has released its 2018 lineup of small ship voyages, with itineraries that stretch from Alaska to the Galapagos Islands. But it’s the line’s two new itineraries on its 88-guest replica steamer, the S.S. Legacy, that are stealing the show.
Next year, the S.S. Legacy will sail a new Rivers of Adventure itinerary along the Columbia and Snake rivers. Cruising from Portland, Oregon to Lewiston, Idaho (or reverse), this weeklong voyage focuses on adventure, with a jet boat ride into Hells Canyon; whitewater rafting on the Deschutes River; and hiking, biking, yoga, paddle boarding, kayak and skiff tours.
S.S. Legacy will also sail seven Rivers of Wine departures between October and mid-December of 2018. These will focus primarily on the vineyards of Oregon and Washington State, and will include a guest wine expert and sommelier onboard each sailing.
“The Columbia and Snake river system is an outdoor enthusiasts’ mecca and extending our style of adventure there is a natural fit,” said captain Dan Blanchard, CEO.
“In order to make it an UnCruise, we need to slow down, take time to kayak, sightsee by skiff and go hiking. We purposely build flexibility into our itineraries to make each day the best day possible.”
The S.S. Legacy is also returning to Alaska in 2018 after being away for several seasons. From April through mid-August, she will operate cruises between Juneau and Sitka, or reverse, with calls on ports like Haines, Sitka and Kake.
If you’ve got more time to spare, you might want to sail aboard the S.S. Legacy (or any number of UnCruise Adventures’ other ships) on a 14-day repositioning voyage between Seattle and Juneau, or reverse. Typically offered at the start or end of the Alaska season, these sailings provide a full transit of the Canadian Inside Passage, scenic cruising of the Salish Sea, plus port calls in Ketchikan, Petersburg, Haines and Glacier Bay National Park.
Elsewhere, the 62-guest Safari Voyager returns to Panama and Costa Rica in 2018. I sailed on this itinerary earlier this year and the experience was out of this world. The very places that bigger ships sail right on past are perfectly suited to the Safari Voyager, which visits unseen coves, hidden inlets and small communities throughout both countries.
UnCruise will also continue to offer its popular voyages to Hawaii, the Galapagos Islands, Mexico’s Sea of Cortes and explorations of Washington’s San Juan Islands and the British Columbia coast next year. Visit fromthedeckchair.com for the latest cruise news and voyage reports.
