Summer Brings New Excitement to Sea to Sky Gondola

- STEVEN HILL

The summer season has finally arrived in the Lower Mainland, and in celebration of the warmer weather and longer days, the Sea to Sky Gondola has launched a packed schedule of events that is guaranteed to have something for everyone.

“This summer we have built on some of our more popular events,” says Christy Allan, Director of Sales and Marketing at the Gondola. “In addition to extending our existing events, we have several new tours, including daily Aboriginal Talking Trees tours and a learn-to-rock-climb tour.”

This summer’s offerings include the venue’s popular Mountaintop Yoga series—with classes running Monday to Friday until August 31 from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. You couldn’t ask for more serene or centering surroundings than at the Summit Lodge, with jaw-dropping views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountain Range.

“Visitors come to the Gondola to escape from the everyday, and what better place to do yoga than 885 metres above Howe Sound, surrounded by mountains and forest,” says Allan.

The focus on health and wellness continues with the Rise + Climb dedicated hike group, hitting the trails during weekends until September 2, with groups departing from the base at 6:45 a.m., 7:15 a.m., and 7:45 a.m. Hikers can also ascend the 7.5-kilometre forested and rocky trail at their own pace to the summit for a power stretch and coffee at 10 a.m. on the patio overlooking the Sound.

For something completely different, why not try out some axe throwing at the Gondola’s new, safe and controlled throwing gallery? Yes, we said axe-throwing. “I’ve tried it and it is super fun,” says Allan. “We were approached by Axewood, a company with tons of experience in axe throwing and we thought we’d give it a try. They are offering axe throwing in the summit plaza, daily.”

She also has lots of suggestions for those not into hurling hatchets for fun and sport. “The Sea to Summit Ascent Trail is a must-do for people wanting a challenging hike,” Allan says. “And, nothing beats the summer sunsets and Friday night music on the patio at the Summit Lodge.”

Best of all, the facility is fully accessible for strollers and wheelchairs, so the whole family can enjoy the new activities at the Sea to Sky Gondola. To plan your day, visit seatoskygondola.com.
