Coming soon: two new Mercedes-Benz sedans

2018: Four-door AMG GT will compete with the Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera

Mercedes-Benz plans on expanding its sedan lineup with two new cars when 2018 rolls around.

According to Automotive News, we’ll see a four-door AMG GT in North America. It was previewed by an absolutely stunning concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March and we’re more than thrilled to see this potential competitor for Audi RS 7 and Porsche Panamera see the light of day.

Powertrain details are still under wraps, but it could go one of two ways. On one hand, the concept debuted with an 805-hp hybrid powertrain and, if it sees production, that would slot into Mercedes’ EQ lineup nicely. On the flip side, the AMG GT sedan could also debut with Mercedes’ brawny 4.4-L twin-turbocharged V8.

Automotive News says both sedans are reportedly set to go on sale in North America next summer.

On the complete opposite end of Mercedes’ sedan spectrum, the upcoming Mercedes-Benz A-Class sedan will make the journey across the Atlantic and hit North American dealers next year. Exact details are few and far between, but the report suggests a base price under US$30,000 and it will be sold alongside the CLA-Class.

That said, given the relationship between the current A-, B- and CLAClass models in Europe, the North American-spec A-Class will probably use the B and CLA’s 2.0-litre turbo-four engine. In those models, the engine puts out 208 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.

As for the looks, the Concept A Sedan unveiled earlier this year in Shanghai ought to provide a fairly clear indication of what to expect.
