B.C. Ferries ousting passengers from cars is a bad idea

-

A smoking-free voyage on B.C. Ferries would be welcome by many, but not being allowed to sit in your car during sailings certainly won’t.

Many people travel with their dogs and cannot leave them in the car, especially in summer.

I have a dog and hang out with her on the car deck, walking and sitting in the car. Will dog owners be able to request an upper deck spot? I would bet not.

Dogs will expire while owners are oblivious to their cries for help. Maybe dogs will now be allowed upstairs. Sure. What about sleeping babies? Parents may just want a little rest and choose to stay in the car with a quiet baby. Would you blame them?

Forcing people out of their cars could lead to all sorts of confrontations. I pity the poor employees who have the nice job of ousting offenders. Not a good idea, B.C. Ferries.

About time!

As someone who worked at B.C. Ferries for 30 years — and fought to have smoking banned — all I have to say is it’s about bloody time.

B.C. Ferries is finally catching up with other major ferry fleets of the world on this important issue. Errol Povah, Delta

Is Weaver premier?

Looks like we have co-premiers here in B.C.

“Premier” Andrew Weaver, head of the Green party, was going on last week about how there is a need to ban foreign buyers in some real-estate transactions and later promised to enact legislation to cut red tape for solar panel installations.

For a guy with no ministerial portfolio, he seems to have a lot of clout in the new NDP/ Green party. Hal Genzel, Delta

Weaver is right

Now I really know why I supported the Green party in the past election. What a brilliant message party leader Andrew Weaver wants to send to those who would buy agricultural land, flip it for a profit and take their gains back home to support family thousands of miles from B.C.

Such land deals offer little or no benefit to the people of B.C. Jeff Laurie, Langley

Government must act

The federal government must put an end to the illegal immigration occurring in our country. The situation in Manitoba and Quebec has been out of control for some time, with Haitians leading the way of late.

First, how are Haitians persecuted political refugees? They do not belong in this country, particularly as they crossed into Canada illegally from the U.S., using the rationale that they are afraid that the U.S. government under President Donald Trump will send them back to Haiti. Send them back to the U.S and stop putting the strain on our immigration system and Canadian taxpayers. Richard Conley, Surrey
