Explore the globe at Richmond World Festival
FREE CELEBRATION OF MUSIC, FOOD AND CULTURE RETURNS TO MINORU PARK
Popular Canadian rockers Tokyo Police Club and Korean hip-hop star Verbal Jint will headline the expanded Richmond World Festival on Friday, Sept. 1 and Saturday, Sept. 2 in Minoru Park.
“In just two years, the Richmond World Festival has become a can’t-miss date on the summer calendar, winning both national and international event industry honours,” said Richmond Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “We’re delighted to be expanding the festival to two days this year. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy the many sounds, tastes and colours of our diverse community and nation as we continue our celebrations of Canada’s 150th anniversary.”
A free celebration of music, food and culture, the Richmond World Festival is presented by Coast Capital Savings. The festival will feature over 75 music and dance performance son nine stages that will span the globe to present both traditional art forms and innovative cultural mash-ups and multi-media performances. The outdoor festival takes place in beautiful Minoru Park, just a short walk from the Canada Line’s Brighouse station.
Highlights include the FEASTival of Flavour, with more than 50 food trucks, offering an international smorgasbord of food choices, and the CF Richmond Centre Culinary Stage with cooking demonstrations by acclaimed chefs.
Festival-goers can also immerse themselves in multicultural experiences ranging from the Global Village, with interactive cultural activities and performances, to the Bamboo Theatre and Digital Carnival, both offering diverse and innovative performances.
Other festival features include Kids World children’s activity area, the Artisan Marketplace with over 50 exhibitors, and the World of Poetry, with readings and performances by more than a dozen local poets. Check out Imagination World, presented by the Richmond Public Library, with family-based performances, multilingual and multicultural book displays and fun with the information revolution’s latest technology from mini-robots to 3-D printers.
At the centre of the festival is the Mosaic Main Stage, with free headline performances by top Canadian and international talent, including Verbal Jint, Tokyo Police Club, Dragonette and many more.
Direct from South Korea, hiphop star Verbal Jint will headline the festival on Friday, Sept. 1. An influential South Korean rapper and record producer, Verbal Jint is notable for his groundbreaking innovations in Korean hip-hop rap rhyme work.
Launched in 2008, the Toronto in die rock quartet Tokyo Police Club has won both critical and popular ac claim across Canada and internationally. Tokyo Police Club will headline the festival’s YVR Mosaic Main Stage on Saturday, Sept. 2. Popular Canadian electro-pop innovators Dragonette will also perform on the main stage on Saturday.
