Venezuela is suf­fer­ing and chef Jef­fer­son Al­varez (chef owner of Ca­cao) and Ale­jan­dro J. Su­cre (Blue House Or­gan­ics farm in Pem­ber­ton) are help­ing raise money for a chef-driven or­ga­ni­za­tion, Full Belly, Happy Heart (trans­lated). It feeds hun­gry chil­dren in Cara­cas. Blue House will be do­nat­ing $1 from ev­ery $20 har­vest box of veg­eta­bles sold un­til the end of the grow­ing sea­son and Ca­cao will do­nate the pro­ceeds from a Blue House Or­gan­ics salad fea­tured on the menu. Blue House Or­gan­ics har­vest boxes are avail­able on­line (blue­house­or­gan­ics.ca) or at the fol­low­ing farm­ers’ mar­kets: Queen El­iz­a­beth Theatre (Thurs­days), Ri­ley Park (Satur­days), Pem­ber­ton Com­mu­nity Barn (Fri­days), Whistler Black­comb Moun­tain Base (Sundays).
