Voters need to give NDP time to clean up Liberal mess

-

The B.C. Liberals were in power for the last 16 years, bleeding millions of dollars out of ICBC while claiming a balanced budget. Why does the problem with ICBC suddenly become the NDP’s fault when the Liberals let it go for 16 years?

There are a number of changes that need to happen, but after such a long time with the Liberal government, they will take time to correct. For instance, the NDP reinstated the annual bus pass for the disabled, which the Liberals wouldn’t do in their budget.

We need to give the NDP a chance to make good on their promises instead of criticizing everything they do.

Taxpayers getting fleeced

NDP Premier John Horgan and “assistant premier” Andrew Weaver of the Green party have come up with another way to fleece voters — bailing out the broke NDP with our tax dollars. Weaver gets the jackpot — more party money than he ever had.

Horgan’s hollow promises have just begun. He is willing to flush away about $77 million already spent on the Massey bridge, which has been studied to death, for more costly studies. He took away bridge tolls only to increase ICBC premiums.

Ten-dollar-a-day daycare won’t happen as promised, as it is too expensive and Weaver doesn’t like the plan. Horgan needs some of the tax revenue he promised for daycare to pay for his gift to the political parties. Stay tuned to see which of the NDP’s other “promises” get tweaked. Hal Genzel, Delta

Show us the coalition pact

It is time that the NDP-Green coalition agreement be published.

It is an important document that has created an artificial government. Green party leader Andrew Weaver and NDP Premier John Horgan were so anxious to grab power that whatever principles they claim to have are being muddled on a daily basis. The province is going to tread backward as a result. Tom Moore, Delta

Rainbow crossing is graffiti

As Langley Township Coun. Angie Quaale says, installing the rainbow crosswalk was a political statement. However, for an elected body to endorse a political statement which the majority of their constituents neither agree with nor endorse is an act of political dishonesty.

The rainbow flag is a symbol of politicized homosexuality. To claim that it merely represents “inclusivity” is equivalent to saying that the Maple Leaf flag represents horticulture. This uninvited “public art installation” is no more than graffiti applied with a roller instead of a spray can.

Quit bragging about kids

I am offended that some schools provide parents with car decals that describe their children as honour roll students. If these students are indeed high achievers, then they are rewarded daily in class and do not need bragging rights, which displays a lack of compassion for families who have children with academic, mental or health challenges.

Enjoy your child’s strengths and abilities, but keep it within your family.
