Kap files collusion grievance against owners

Colin Kaepernick has filed a collusion grievance against NFL owners, according to multiple reports Sunday afternoon.

Mike Jones of USA Today reported it’s a grievance under the collective bargaining agreement between owners and players.

The former San Francisco 49ers quarterback has been a free agent since exercising an out clause in his contract with the Niners in March. GM John

Lynch later said the team would have cut Kaepernick had he not opted out himself.

Some NFL experts — but certainly not all — are shocked that the 29-yearold remains unsigned, especially after so many injuries since training camps opened and the regular season began.

Kaepernick sparked NFL player protests last year at preseason games when he refused to stand as the national anthem played. The purpose, he said, was to raise awareness about continuing racial inequality in America.

Kaepernick and other NFLers who followed suit have been heavily criticized for their stance of not standing during the playing of The Star Spangled Banner, including since September by U.S. president Donald Trump, who urged the NFL to immediately fire those who he says disrespect the flag, country and military. “I don’t understand what’s unAmerican about fighting for liberty and justice for everybody, for the equality that this country says it stands for,” Kaepernick said last October. “To me, I see it as very patriotic and American to uphold the United States to the standards that it says it lives by. That’s something that needs to be addressed.” When he agreed last year to renegotiate his contract with the Niners, Kaepernick earned the ability to terminate the remainder of the deal at season’s end.

Although his production gradually dropped from his first season of starting for the Niners (2012) through 2015, when he finally got the chance to play last season, on Oct. 16 at Buffalo, Kaepernick passed more efficiently — throwing 16 TDs against only four interceptions — but he completed only 60% of his throws and the 49ers lost 10 of 11 games he started, after going 2-6 in 2015 and 8-8 in 2014.

The NFL did not comment on the reports.
