Leafs sweep series against Bruins

NHL roundup: Marner ends goal drought as Toronto hands Boston fourth loss in five games

Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk each had a goal and an assist, Curtis McElhinney stopped 38 shots and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Bruins 4-1 Saturday night in Boston to complete a sweep of a home-and-home series.

Marner had not scored since the Leafs’ opening game of the regular season in Winnipeg.

Morgan Rielly and Patrick Marleau also scored to help the Leafs win their fourth straight one night after a 3-2 overtime victory at home over the Bruins.

Frank Vatrano had Boston’s goal and Tuukka Rask finished with 21 saves. The Bruins have lost four of five games (1-3-1).

Toronto star Auston Matthews missed his third straight with an undisclose­d upper body injury.

PACIORETTY SCORES IN OT AS CANADIENS EDGE SABRES

Max Pacioretty scored at 3:08 of overtime to lift the Montreal Canadiens to a 2-1 victory over the Sabres in Buffalo. Pacioretty broke in alone and beat Chad Johnson with a backhand shot.

Andrew Shaw also scored for Montreal (8-9-1), which has won four of its last five games. Charlie Lindgren made a fifth straight start in goal and improved to 4-1-0.

Ryan O’Reilly scored for Buffalo (5-9-3), which was coming off a 4-1 loss at home to Florida on Friday night.

The Canadiens announced that goalie Al Montoya has a concussion and is out indefinite­ly. Montoya hasn’t played since Nov. 4 in Winnipeg, although he dressed as backup to Lindgren for three games. Zach Fucale, called up Friday from AHL Laval, backed up Lindgren against the Sabres. No. 1 goalie Carey Price has missed five games with a lower-body injury.

OTTAWA TOPS COLORADO TO SWEEP SWEDEN GAMES

Mike Hoffman scored two goals to help the Ottawa Senators beat the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 on Saturday for a sweep of their two regular-season games in Sweden.

Mark Stone and Johnny Oduya also scored for Ottawa, which trailed 3-2 after two periods. Defenceman Erik Karlsson had two assists, giving the captain 17 points in 11 games this season.

Oduya, a Stockholm native, drove a slap shot by Jonathan Bernier at 7:01 of the third, tying it at 3 and delighting the crowd of more than 13,000. Hoffman got the game-winning goal on a one-timer on a power play with 6:37 left.

Alexander Kerfoot and Sven Andrighett­o each had a goal and an assist for the Avalanche, who have dropped three in a row. Bernier finished with 36 saves.

The two games in Stockholm were part of the 2017 NHL Global Series. It was the fifth time the NHL has played regular-season games in Europe, but the first since 2011.

The Senators beat the Avalanche 4-3 in overtime in the opener on Friday.

RANGERS WIN SEASON-HIGH SIXTH STRAIGHT GAME

Rick Nash scored twice, leading New York to its season-high sixth straight win.

Pavel Buchnevich also scored for the Rangers, and Michael Grabner added an empty-netter with 1.4 seconds remaining.

Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves, and Mats Zuccarello picked up two assists.

Connor McDavid and Jesse Puljujarvi scored for the visiting Oilers, who lost to the Rangers for the fourth consecutiv­e time. Cam Talbot made 30 saves.

ZUCKER SCORES SIXTH GOAL IN THREE GAMES

Jason Zucker scored his sixth goal in three games and Devan Dubnyk made 32 saves for his second straight shutout to give the Minnesota Wild a 1-0 victory over the Flyers in Philadelph­ia.

Zucker has scored Minnesota’s last six goals, extending his team record when he banked in a rebound off Brian Elliott 1:06 into the third period.

Flyers centre Nolan Patrick, who missed his eighth straight game with a suspected concussion, could practice Monday, GM Ron Hextall said.
