Nars Velvet Matte Foundation Stick

- Aleesha Harris

What it is: A collection of medium-coverage foundations housed in a convenient twist-up stick format.

The matte-finish formula is suitable for all skin types — from dry to oily, according to the brand. The versatile foundations also feature a built-in Touch-Up Blender sponge on one end for blending product, as well as applying touch-ups as needed throughout the day. The latex-free sponge is washable and reusable.

Each stick formula features “elastomer micro beads” to provide flexibility and elasticity, promising to prevent creasing and settling of the product into fine lines and wrinkles. Meanwhile, ingredients including vitamins A, C and E combine with ginger root extract to provide “antioxidant protection” and help protect the skin from environmental aggressors.

Available in 20 skintone-matching shades.

What we say: These foundation sticks get a lot of things right.

Our tester was impressed with the smoothness of this formula. The product glides onto skin and doesn’t feel too thick or sticky. While those looking for full coverage may find the medium-coverage formula too sheer, we found it provided a nice blurring effect to skin to smooth out overall tone and was more than enough to cover most imperfections.

The included applicator tip makes application easy — especially for those who have yet to add a blending sponge to their tool kit. Skin looked smooth and shine-free when set with a loose powder lightly dusted overtop.

Where to get it: Hudson’s Bay; Sephora

What it will cost you: $55 each
