Vancouver’s Hori hits the ice in new Disney show

- Aleesha Harris

Whether you’re a diehard fan of all things Disney, or are just looking for a fun, family friendly event to attend this month, you might want to grab the kids, a jacket (it might get chilly in the ice rink, after all) and head out to Follow Your Heart, presented by Disney on Ice.

Aside from featuring familiar faces from film classics, Vancouver ice skater Kurtis Hori, who stars in the latest Disney production, assures attendees the evening will provide more than a few laughs, smiles and gasp-inducing on-ice tricks.

Hori recently chatted with Postmedia News about the production, his favourite part of the show, and what it means to be a part of the Disney world.

Q How would you describe the Disney on Ice Follow Your Heart Show?

A A highly athletic, story-family friendly show with all your favourite Disney princesses and characters all under one roof.

What can the audience expect to see during the show?

Exciting tricks, high-flying acts, endless humour and fun, spectacular performances to everyone’s favourite Disney music, as well as live interpretations of classic and modern tales ranging from Beauty and the Beast to Frozen, to Finding Dory.

Is there anything that will be a surprise?

I don’t want to spoil any surprises, but this show has the Disney on Ice debut of Disney/ Pixar’s Inside Out.

So keep an eye on all those emotions.

What does it mean to you as a skater to be part of this production?

I love that I can bring my skills and tricks from my competitive figure-skating background to help entertain audiences worldwide.

What’s your favourite part of the show and why?

The Toy Story segment. It gets the audience up dancing, laughing and cheering as all your favourite toys take to the ice.

What’s next for you?

I will continue with Disney on Ice and entertain audiences across the globe.
