A favourite sip of the season

- Aleesha Harris Aharris@postmedia.com

Looking to imbibe something a stronger a steaming hot cup of cocoa while sitting by the fireplace?

Consider the holiday season’s second-favourite sip (unless, of course, you’re counting eggnog, which is undoubtedly a seasonal staple, albeit less universally beloved): mulled wine.

We asked the team at Two Oceans Wines to come up with an easy mulled wine recipe that was basically foolproof. The kind of recipe that could be whipped up in a flash for friends and family to enjoy before, after, or during the holiday meal. With minimal mixing and mess required.

Here’s what they came up with.

Easy, delicious mulled wine

SERVES 4

2 cups Two Oceans Shiraz 2 cups apple cider 2 tbsp mulling spices 3 tbsp fresh ginger (peeled, grated and packed) 2 tbsp orange rind

In a saucepan over medium heat, combine ingredients. Simmer for half an hour. Strain before serving and serve with a stick of cinnamon.

Really feeling lazy? No worries (and no judgment). There’s a microwaveable version with a few less ingredients.

In a microwave-safe glass, combine three parts Two Oceans Shiraz with one part spiced apple cider. Add in thinly sliced apples and oranges, to taste. Microwave on high until hot, but not boiling. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and enjoy.
