Regent names Seven Seas Splendor

- Aaron Saunders FROM THE DECK CHAIR

Hot on the 2016 debut of its most luxurious ship to-date, Regent Seven Seas Cruises just announced the name of the sister-ship to its award-winning Seven Seas Explorer. The new ship, scheduled for delivery during the first quarter of 2020, will be called Seven Seas Splendor.

Regent’s second Explorer-class ship will boast the same luxurious style and amenities as her predecessor, including all-suite, all-balcony accommodations and a vast array of wellness and culinary options onboard. She will be able to accommodate just 750 guests.

“The naming of a ship is an important milestone in maritime tradition and it is my pleasure to announce that the name of Regent Seven Seas Cruises’ new ship to launch in 2020 is Seven Seas Splendor,” said Jason Montague, President and Chief Executive Officer of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “The extraordinary demand for Seven Seas Explorer has reinforced our decision to expand our fleet and Seven Seas Splendor will offer guests a fifth option that will provide unforgettable experiences in the world’s most compelling destinations, with the incredibly high standards of luxury and service that lure guests back again and again.”

Regent Seven Seas Cruises turned heads last year when it debuted the Seven Seas Explorer. Reportedly the world’s most luxurious ship (a claim that’s tough to beat), the ship featured every imaginable convenience, from a Savoir No. 1 bed valued at US$150,000 in the sprawling Regent Suite; to the vessel’s soothing infinity pool.

Seven Seas Splendor will build on that success. While the basic design of the ship doesn’t look like it will change substantially over Seven Seas Explorer, Regent is known for crafting unique interiors among its fleet. Expect some cool new features to be unique to this upcoming luxury liner.

To keep up with Regent’s latest-and-greatest, the line is putting its existing fleet of ships, including Seven Seas Navigator, Seven Seas Mariner, and Seven Seas Voyager through a massive $125-million fleetwide refurbishment program designed to upgrade suites and public areas throughout Regent’s most beloved ships.

Exact details and itineraries for Seven Seas Splendor are still under wraps at this time. Expect Regent Seven Seas to offer up some more tantalizing details — and early booking information — as we get closer to Seven Seas Splendor’s 2020 launch date.
