Dirty win for Jags
Maybe the Jags are for real. Jacksonville took control of the AFC South on Sunday with a hard-fought (almost literally) 30-24 win over Seattle, coupled with Tennessee’s meek 12-7 loss at Arizona.
The Jags improved to 9-4, while the Titans dropped from their first-place tie into second in the division, at 8-5.
A feisty game turned over-the-line dirty in the final minute when several Seahawks defenders lost their composure, earning multiple personal-foul penalties after a brief melee that got two lineman ejected, Sheldon Richardson and Quinton Jefferson.
Jefferson tried to climb into the stands on his way out before being restrained, prior to the last Jacksonville kneeldown, in reaction to taunts from front-row Jaguars fans.
“We have to be more poised than that,” Seattle head coach Pete Carroll said.
With the NFL’s top rushing attack, No. 1 pass defence and No. 1 total defence, Jacksonville has won six of its past seven games. Those units stood out against Seattle.
Jags rookie Leonard Fournette rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, Blake Bortles threw for 268 yards and two TDs without an interception, and the Jaguars’ defence intercepted Seattle’s Russell Wilson three times.
“You’ve got to give them a lot of credit,” Carroll said of the Jaguars. “They’re worthy (of their record).”
