Savage reaction to Savage injury
The NFL has yet another ingame concussion controversy on its hands. Houston Texans QB Tom
Savage was slammed to the turf so hard in the second quarter of a 26-16 home-field loss to San Francisco, his head bounced, and he appeared both mouth-bloodied and showing a seizure-like symptom (both hands shaking) right there on the field.
Five minutes later, he was back in playing. He played one more series before being escorted against his will to the locker room.
“The spotter wanted him evaluated,” said Texans head coach Bill O’Brien, who provided almost no clarity to how Savage was mishandled. “The evaluators made the determination to put him back in the game. And then he want back in the game and he came out, and they evaluated him a little bit more just because of what they say. And that’s where it’s at. That’s all I really know about it.”
Shortly after halftime the Texans announced that Savage was concussed and would not return.
Tweeted Chris Nowinski, co-founder of the Concussion Legacy Foundation and one of the NFL’s most forceful critics regarding its concussion policies, and care of the concussed: “Disgusted that the Houston Texans allowed Tom Savage to return to the game, two plays after showing these horrific concussion signs (is that a seizure?) after a head impact. I would not let my worst enemy go through the 2017 NFL sideline concussion protocol.”
