Astros reliever is now a Card
A person familiar with the negotiations says reliever
Luke Gregerson and the St. Louis Cardinals have agreed to an $11 million, two-year contract.
Gregerson would get $5 million in each of the next two seasons, and the deal includes a $6-million team option for 2020 with a $1- million buyout.
A 33-year-old right-hander, Gregerson struck out 70 in 61 innings for Houston, going 2-3 with a career-high 4.57 ERA in 65 relief appearances.
He did not allow a run in five post-season appearances as the Astros won their first title.
MORROW TO THE CUBS
Former Blue Jays RHP Brandon Morrow has reportedly agreed to a two-year deal with the Cubs that will pay him $10-$11 million per season. Morrow had two saves to go with a 2.06 ERA plus 50 strikeouts and just nine walks in 43.2 innings with the Dodgers this past season. He would be an option to close if Wade
Davis, as expected, leaves via free agency.
PROSPECT JOINS TEXAS
The Texas Rangers have signed free-agent shortstop Yenci Pena, one of the players taken from the Atlanta Braves as punishment for circumventing international signing rules. The 17-yearold Dominican was among 13 prospects the Braves lost when former GM John
Coppolella was banned for life by MLB last month.
Pena played 45 games in 2017 for the Braves’ rookielevel Gulf Coast League affiliate, hitting .230 with two home runs and 19 RBIs.
