THE GREEK’S GAME OF THE WEEK

Los Angeles Rams at Tennessee

-

Remember the Titans?

At 8-4 just a couple weeks ago, this promising team looked like a playoff lock.

Now, after two straight losses to sub-.500 teams, the Tennessee football team is falling flatter than the latest shape-of-the-earth conspiracy. And a non-existent running game is largely to blame. This is a team built on its ability to churn out yardage on the ground. But in the past two games, Titans running backs haven’t topped 100 yards, combined.

Add in a suspect pass defence — now 25th in the league — and this team is in some trouble. Especially with the upstart Rams coming to town. We all witnessed what happened in Seattle on Sunday. It was as decisive for the Rams as it was inspiring.

“I think it just shows how much we believe in each other,” quarterback Jared Goff told the L.A. Times after the game.

These young bucks are now serious Super Bowl contenders. They can do it all on both sides of the ball, whether it’s sacking the opposition or running it down their throats.

Never mind the explosive passing attack that’s been the lynchpin of their top-ranked offence.

They are, in short, the team the Titans hope to be one day. That day’s not coming any time soon. Pick: Rams

The Geek says: The Titans aren’t out of it yet, but it sure as hell feels like it. They’re currently the No. 5 seed in the AFC, but will probably have to beat either the Rams this weekend or the Jags the next to make the playoffs. And this is coming after losses to the Cardinals and 49ers.

Said defensive tackle Jurrell Casey to ESPN: “To lose to two sorry teams like that, I’m at a loss for words.” Guess he won’t have much to say after this weekend. Pick: Rams
