Babes on Fourth builds loyal customers
Not all children’s clothing is created equally. At least that’s what Mishel Miranda hopes people discover when they set foot inside her Kitsilano clothing store.
Dubbed Babes on Fourth, the shop features a wide array of European designer and up-and-coming brands, catered toward the under-16 market.
Miranda recently chatted with Postmedia News about taking over the longtime local shopping destination with her husband, what’s new and what makes them different from other children’s boutiques.
Q For those who aren’t familiar, what is Babes on Fourth?
A Babes on Fourth is a baby and children designer clothing and accessories boutique for newborns to 16-year-olds. Our boutique has been in Kitsilano for 18 years, and we are located on West Broadway.
When and why did you open the shop?
We are a husband-and-wife team who moved to Vancouver from Mexico City eight months ago to take over Babes on Fourth. We have a young son and daughter and a passion for children’s apparel. Babes on Fourth was first founded in 1999.
What brands do you carry?
We carry brands from Europe, such as Kenzo, Patachou, Mayoral, among others, and local brands, such as Minimoc and Loulou Lollipop.
What makes it different from other boutiques?
Our boutique stands out for the mix of designer brands we carry, along with more casual local brands. The age range of newborns to 16-year-olds means we can be a one-stop shop for all ages. We carry gift items, baby items and formal wear, making it a great place to buy baby shower gifts, or even a special occasion outfit for your little one.
What has been the reaction to the shop?
Over the last 18 years, we’ve built a wonderful and loyal customer base — people who had come in for their children, are now coming in for their grandchildren. Our customers always feel welcome in our shop, because of the boutique feeling and we value the personal relationships we build with each one.
Lastly, what’s next — any new launches to keep an eye out for?
Our next venture will hopefully be opening a children’s shoe store, so stay tuned.
