Movie on royal romance set to shoot in Vancouver

Cable network Lifetime is set to film a movie about the love story of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle in Vancouver.

The movie, which will shoot from Feb. 13 to March 9, according to a Directors Guild of Canada production list, is titled Harry & Meghan: A Royal Love Story.

That’s just silly. How is it not called When Harry Met Meghan?

That wasted opportunity aside, Harry & Meghan really is the ideal Lifetime movie: it’s about a prince who falls in love. And Vancouver is the ideal location, as it can be dressed up to look like just about anywhere — perfect for a film focused on a worldwide romance spanning Great Britain, Canada, where Markle filmed the legal drama Suits, and Africa.

The film will chronicle Harry and Meghan’s love story from the past to the present, touching on how they met — they were set up by friends, which isn’t particularly enthralling, but maybe they’ll add explosions or something — as well as their efforts to keep the relationship under wraps in the early going.

Bangladesh-born British filmmaker Menhaj Huda is directing, and his English bona fides are clear: in addition to directing an episode of U.S. drama The Royals, Huda has directed 39 episodes of Coronation Street. The movie is currently casting. There is no airdate yet, but these Lifetime movies tend to come together quickly. A previous Lifetime movie, William & Kate, chronicled the romance between Prince Harry’s older brother and Kate Middleton and aired 11 days before their royal wedding. If Lifetime hopes to do something similar here, they’ll have to hurry. Harry and Meghan are set to wed on May 19.
