If you ever get hungry in the middle of the night, maybe don’t try to break into a food truck.

Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, Vancouver police received a call about a man using a grinding tool to break into a food truck parked in a lane near East 10th and Main streets.

As officers were preparing to descend on the suspect, a second man in a minivan picked up the suspect and drove away. The pair then drove several blocks before stopping near East 12th and Ontario streets, where officers were able to block in the van with a police cruiser in front and another behind.

“The driver of the van began ramming both police vehicles in an obvious attempt to escape,” read a statement shared Sunday by Const. Jason Doucette.

“The officers were able to maintain their box and pin of the van and the three vehicles came to rest on the front yard of a residence.”

The two men inside the van then fled; one was arrested quickly with the help of a K-9 team, while the second man led officers on a short chase. He was arrested less than two blocks away.

The suspect taken down by the police dog, as well as one of the officers involved in the foot chase, were treated by paramedics at the scene for minor injuries.

The two men, both in their 40s, are being investigated for possible charges.
