Model Hadid fires back at body shamers

-

Gigi Hadid detailed her battle with Hashimoto’s disease in a bid to shut down body shamers who claim she’s too thin.

Since embarking on her successful modelling career in 2013, Hadid, now, 22, has noticeably slimmed down.

Following her recent appearance at New York Fashion Week, fashion fans spoke out about her slender figure, which led to a furious Twitter outburst from Hadid.

“For those of you so determined to come up w(ith) why my body has changed over the years, you may not know that when I started @ 17 I was not yet diagnosed w/Hashimoto’s disease; those of u who called me ‘too big for the industry’ were seeing inflammation & water retention due to that (sic),” she tweeted.

“Over the last few years I’ve been properly medicated to help symptoms including those, as well as extreme fatigue, metabolism issues, body’s ability to retain heat, etc. … I was also part of a holistic medical trial that helped my thyroid levels balance out.”

Hashimoto’s is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is gradually destroyed.

Hadid walked for the likes of Prabal Gurung, Brandon Maxwell and Jeremy Scott, among others, and has a jam-packed schedule in Europe later in the week.

She further blamed stress and travel for having an effect on her weight, but was keen to let her fans and critics know she feels healthier than ever.
