Governor General’s honours handed out

A Regina ceramic artist with six decades in the medium is among this year’s winners of the $25,000 Governor General’s Awards in visual and media arts. Jack Sures won the Saidye Bronfman award. Vancouver curator Glenn Alteen also won an award, and was singled out in a news release for his “consistent, respectful and ethical inclusion of artists, curators and cultural workers from diverse backgrounds.Ĝ Other winners include Bruce Eves, Spring Hurlbut and Midi Onodera, each of Toronto; Wyn Geleynse of London, Ont.; Vancouver photographer Sandra Semchuk and Siksika Nation artist Adrian Stimson.

MUSIC R. Kelly evicted

R&B singer R. Kelly has been evicted from two Atlanta-area homes over unpaid rent. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Monday that Feb. 13 filings with the Fulton County magistrate court show Kelly owes more than US$31,000 in past due payments. Court filings show Kelly paid US$3,000 a month and US$11,542 a month, respectively, for two homes just three kilometres apart. The county is reviewing a police file after July 2017 allegations that Kelly was holding women against their will as part of a cult.

BOOKS Author drops suit

Milo Yiannopoulos is dropping a lawsuit against his former publisher. In papers filed Tuesday in New York Supreme Court, Yiannopoulos and Simon & Schuster asked that the case be dismissed “without costs or fees to either party.ĜThe farright agitator sued for US$10 million last summer after the publisher cancelled the release of his memoir Dangerous. It acted after video clips of Yiannopoulos surfaced in which he appears to defend sexual relationships between men and boys. Simon & Schuster had called the suit a publicity stunt.
