Emaciated dog making ‘terrific strides’ since his January recovery, SPCA says

Cedric, an emaciated boxer dog formerly known as Tank, is making “terrific strides” in recovery, the B.C. SPCA said on Friday.

The SPCA issued a plea last month for help to pay for Tank’s recovery after the two-year-old dog was found in January severely emaciated and shivering to keep warm.

B.C. SPCA Vancouver branch manager Jodi Dunlop says Cedric has come a long way.

“Every day I see more of his true personality shine through,” Dunlop said in a news release.

Dunlop said he’s even wagging his tail.

“What a difference from when we first met him,” she said.

To bring him back from starvation, Dunlop has been feeding him a tablespoon of food every couple of hours and watching him to make sure he doesn’t eat anything bad.

“Because he had no food for so long, it’s a very slow process to increase his food intake and to ensure he’s getting the nutrients from that food,” she said.

Dunlop said an animal cruelty investigation continues. The SPCA has not released any information about where the dog was found.

“He’s the most emaciated dog I’ve ever seen and I’ve been doing this for 30 years,” she said. “It’s shocking.”

She said Cedric has started to slowly gain weight but still has problems keeping warm because he has no body fat.

The branch is reviewing several adoption applications in search of a home for the dog.
