Wonder Woman adds voice to #MeToo

Actress Lynda Carter shares ordeal she faced while filming for hit TV series

Lynda Carter experienced sexual misconduct while filming 1970s TV series Wonder Woman.

The actress, who played the titular character in the superhero series from 1975 to 1979, has added her voice to the growing number of Hollywood stars who have opened up about sexual harassment and abuse in the showbiz industry.

In an interview with The Daily Beast, she revealed she experienced misconduct on Wonder Woman, saying, “There was a cameraman who drilled a hole in my dressing room wall on the Warner Bros. lot.”

She said executives caught the peeping Tom, whom she refused to name, fired him and “drummed him out of the business.”

Carter said she “fended off my share” of unwanted sexual advances and had been “afraid” on other occasions during her career, but she never reported the incidents due to a fear of being blacklisted from the industry.

“Yes, you wouldn’t (talk). Who are you going to tell, your agent?” she explained. “Who’s going to believe you? No one’s going to believe you. And when you did push back by saying, ‘Are you kidding me?’ they would say, ‘Yes, yes.’ But it was everywhere.”

The 66-year-old also said she suffered sexual abuse at the hands of somebody else, but refused to name him or detail what happened. However, she revealed that he has already been named in the sexual abuse scandal sweeping Hollywood as he had violated “a lot of people.”

“He’s already being done in. There’s no advantage in piling on again,” she said, and added that the justice he is receiving “isn’t enough.”

The actress considered pursuing legal action against her alleged abuser, but realized it wouldn’t do much good.

“There’s nothing legally I could add to it, because I looked into it. I’m just another face in the crowd,” she said. “I wish I could, and if I could I would. And I would talk about it. But it ends up being about me, and not about the people who can talk about it. I don’t want it to be about me, it’s not about me. It’s about him being a scumbag.”
