U.K. inspector gets $1.5m in discrimination case
A decorated senior police officer, who ran a riot squad for the Metropolitan Police in London, has been awarded $1.5 million in compensation after suffering sexism from his female boss. An employment tribunal found Chief Insp. Adrian Denby, 49, was unlawfully discriminated against on five separate occasions. It followed a crackdown on the perceived macho culture in the force, which saw Deputy Assistant Commissioner Maxine De Brunner given the role of driving out discrimination in the service, The Daily Telegraph reported.
On one occasion de Brunner ordered a probe after seeing an officer with only a towel around his waist go from the shower to the locker-room. Denby said he regretted not stopping male staff crossing the room. He claimed he was unfairly punished while a female colleague in a similar position was not.
