Premier should stop fighting the pipeline taxpayers own
Thank you Premier John Horgan and Green party Leader Andrew Weaver. I always wanted to be part-owner of a pipeline. Not!
The pipeline needs to be built. Stop your stalling tactics. Stop saying you’re speaking for all British Columbians because you aren’t.
Horgan says we should refine oil here. I don’t disagree, but where would he build the refinery? He never mentions that part because no one wants it in their neighbourhood.
So get the pipeline built and get on to other issues. Stop using my tax dollars to fight the pipeline that taxpayers now own. Rob Coburn, Langley
‘Ashamed’ of NDP
The B.C. government’s hypocritical stance on the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion defies belief. Stop the pipeline at all costs, but if the federal government puts it through then B.C. wants money? Stunning.
If Premier John Horgan and Green party Leader Andrew Weaver care about the environment as much as they claim, shouldn’t they refuse the dirty-oil money?
There has been no tanker spill from the existing pipeline in 60 years, so screaming “no” because of that possibility is the old story of Chicken Little crying that the sky is falling.
I’m ashamed of our provincial government. David Leckschas, Coldstream
PR too confusing
Most voters can barely even get to the polls, as evidenced by the poor turnouts.
These ivory-tower, proportional-representation options are beyond comprehension in an election process that is one ballot every four years.
And to have the inmates run the asylum simply exacerbates a system that divorces the voter from the results. Rick Angus, Vancouver
Also confused
I completed the questionnaire earlier this year regarding the possible change in B.C.’s electoral system. I have two masters degrees, I’m well read and I should have been able to make sense of that questionnaire, but I couldn’t. It presented so many options that it became very confusing, to say the least.
The first-past-the-post system we have now is not ideal, but it sure makes a whole lot more sense to me than what our premier wants to do.
I’m going to vote for the tried and true. Constance Knox, Burnaby
Slow them down
Re: Sunday’s fatal accident on the Coquihalla Highway.
It’s time to lower the 120-km/h speed limit on this highway. The Insurance Corp. of B.C. says “speed kills” and it obviously does. Brian Barnes, Steveston
Show the U.S. more respect
I agree with letter-writer Gary Tupper that the U.S. will not trust Canada completely because Canada coddles terrorists, sucks up to dictators, neglects border security and fails to maintain an appropriate military capability. Canada also wants full access to the vast U.S. market without allowing equivalent access to its own market.
Canada is more concerned with pontificating about gender equity, LGBTQ rights, climate change and the progressive Marxist utopia than trying to understand the meaning behind the words of its benefactor, the U.S., that shelters it under its military umbrella, and showing respect to U.S. President Donald Trump instead of exhibiting faux outrage.
