GET YOURSELF — ANDAKID—TO A CAR SHOW THIS WEEKEND

Abit of an outlier carnut day tomorrow as there are just two events taking place on the Lower Mainland. And they couldn’t be more different.

Over on the North Vancouver waterfront there’s a classic boat and car show, and later in the day under the lights there’s racing at Agassiz. If you’ve never been to either, broaden your horizons and give them a try. You won’t be disappointed.

The racing at Agassiz Speedway is great, but so is the drive out there if you take the old-school Lougheed Highway.

Sunday is more typical of a summer weekend as there are five shows in Metro Vancouver and one in Cache Creek. The Pontiac show I could walk to .... but I will drive the Old Chevy and then possibly a dash out to Abby for the GM show. As that one is a benefit for the B.C. SPCA, we’ll take our dog Stella. Lastly a nice drive to Steveston for the car show and some lunch. Sort of a carnut version of a triathlon.

Last weekend our car show at Centennial high school raised some cash for the students and we had to close the gates as we filled up. Next year there should be more available parking.

Saturday I spent at the Langley Loafers Old Time races at Mission Raceway Park and it was fantastic. The rain held off and after a sprinkling in morning I got there just as the races were about to start. A day of great action and very limited ‘on track’ breakage allowed for almost nonstop action. With racers from Alberta, Oregon, Washington, Vancouver Island and many places throughout B.C., both fans and racers got their fix in a rain-shortened weekend.

On Sunday I went by the A&W on 200th in Langley for the impromptu car club meeting of the Vintage Car Club of Canada, and then off to Douglas Park in Langley for the British car show. A couple of cars really stood out there, including a couple of gold Triumphs, a TR7 and a TR8.

Hopefully you will get out to a car show in your area, and note that the Steveston car show offers a workshop on building car models ... so bring a kid!
