Passing on a U.S. vacation
We came perilously close to deciding to spend some of our limited pension dollars on a short vacation in the U.S., as we have done so many times over the past several decades. But Donald Trump’s decision to insult our prime minister and, in effect, declare Canada an enemy of America has made us change our minds.
Even though Canadians have fought side by side with Americans through four wars and have long been their biggest trading partner, Americans have always had a tendency to bear a slight, sometimes pronounced condescending attitude about what they perceive as their polite but irrelevant neighbours to the north.
We’ll miss the Oregon coast and San Francisco, which used to be our destinations of choice. Ray Arnold, Richmond
