John Frieda’s Frizz Ease Dream Curls collection

- ALEESHA HARRIS

What it is: A collection of hair-care products from the brand John Frieda, which famously introduced the Frizz Ease Serum to frizz-battling shoppers 30 years ago.

The new Dream Curls collection sees the brand update the iconic formula with the addition of Abyssinian oil, an ingredient derived from a plant that’s said to be native to the Ethiopian highlands.

The range offers a variety of products including: shampoo, conditioner, Daily Styling Spray, Air Dry Waves Styling Foam and Curl Reviver Mousse. The purple-package products promise to provide freedom from frizz, enhanced curls, smoother strands — and more. What we say: Our tester was already a big fan of the Frizz Ease serum, which she says has “tamed” her unruly wavy tresses for more than a decade.

Needless to say, when this product landed on our desks, it was an easy one to assign out. The products have a nice, subtle scent that’s a bit more luxe than we remember the old options being.

The shampoo and conditioner are creamy, with a little going a long way. The formula rinses well and leaves strands feeling clean and non residue-y.

Our tester tried both the Daily Styling Spray and the Air Dry Waves Styling Foam, and was pleased with both. But it was the Air Dry Waves Styling Foam that came out on top. A few pumps of foam distributed through wet strands left hair feeling smoother and much tamer once dried — no heat required.

The products were put to the ultimate test when our tester got caught in a rain shower. The result? Some frizz and fluff, but much less than there would have been had she not used the Dream Curls range. Where to get it: Mass

retailers. What it will cost you: $12.99 each.
