Older brothers can be hard on their siblings and often have little time for them.

Not Quinn Hughes. Mention Jack Hughes and big brother perks up for all the right reasons.

His kid brother is already a centre of prospect attention and expected to be a high pick for the 2019 NHL Draft in Vancouver.

At the World Under-18 championship he led all scorers with 12 points (5-7) in a dozen games for the U.S. and was named MVP, and an obvious choice for the all-star team.

Jack also lit it up in his first USHL season with the U.S National Development Team, compiling a whopping 54 points (21-33) in just 27 games.

“His work ethic is second to none and I credit a lot of my success to him and I’m sure he’ll do the same,” said Quinn.

“Obviously, you see on the ice how good he is. But off the ice, he does everything that it takes.

“He just loves the game. He gets his sleep. He eats the right way and does everything away from the game that allows him to be special on the ice.

“He’s an unbelievable player and I’m sure you’re going to be hearing a lot about him next year. It’s not only fun watching him as a brother, but as a fan of the game. I’m excited for him.”

Quinn’s excitement for being around the game started early.

He was just six years old when he sat comfortably in the AHL stall of Manchester Monarchs winger Jeff Tambellini. He easily smiled for the camera.

“He was used to be around dressing rooms and being around great players,” recalled Tambellini. “Nothing really overwhelms him.”
