Patrick Dempsey takes on a different shade of grey
Actor Patrick Dempsey has marked his fashion designer debut with a new unisex collection for Bleusalt.
The former Grey’s Anatomy star collaborated with Lyndie Benson, who launched the sustainable luxury apparel label based in Malibu, Calif. last year, in creating a sixpiece line in shades of sand and grey, with prices ranging from $50 to $350 per piece.
Dempsey had a hand in every part of the design and he couldn’t be prouder of the finished products, which include The Tide Trouser, The Point Polo, The Big Rock Blazer, The Trancas Trouser and The Colony Cap, and The Big Rock Boyfriend Blazer for women.
“The line, certainly with the jacket, has a European cut to it and it’s really easy to travel in,” he tells Women’s Wear Daily. “We put in pockets for your passport, wallet, glasses, all that stuff. The pants are really comfortable on a long flight. They’re like sweatpants but more defined. We put in a faux fly and some pockets to keep it comfortable and cool.”
The 52-year-old had never designed clothes before his work on the new Bleusalt capsule, but he felt more comfortable than he expected to, during his first turn as an atelier.
“It is a completely different discipline but it goes hand-inhand with costume, wardrobe and architecture, which are all different disciplines you use in the process of filmmaking,” he explains.
Dempsey and his makeup-artist wife, Jillian, teamed up to promote the new line at their family home in the Southern California beach town.
“We shot a little teaser commercial at my house and around Malibu. Jillian was doing something for her makeup line at the same time, Lyndie was taking photographs, so we all just came together and it was playful and organic,” he says.
Dempsey’s new line became available on Thursday.
