ON A MISSION
Sports cars take to the road course this weekend for some hot racing
The third stop in the 2018 Sports Car Club of B.C. season continues what has been a great start to the campaign.
The first race driver-training course in March sold out, building on an already high number of novice racers who took part in the final race of 2017
This weekend’s racing at the Mission Road Course marks the second visit for the series in three months, as the season kicked off in April at the 2.3-kilometre, nine turn track.
The off-season saw a number of accomplished drivers work hard to stay on the podium, with a few getting new cars ready. Among the notables, Langley’s Phil Roney purchased a Van Diemen Formula Continental to compete in that highly competitive class; Richmond’s Gary Kwong took his 2017 Time Attack championship Subaru STI, installed a full cage and made several other performance upgrades in his quest for an IP1 road racing championship in 2018; and 2017 SCCBC rookie of the year Andrew Dobbie will be competing at Mission Raceway for the Formula Ford title in his Dowco.com-sponsored Van Diemen RF05.
Speed-Fanatics, R&P Motorsports and Nixon ProSports also built new cars over the winter to add to their growing collection of race cars and rentals: Everything from formula cars to high horsepower GT1 racers and everything in between.
This season also marks the first visit of the Radical Canada West Cup series to Mission at the last race weekend in October. And the Vintage Race Club of B.C. will be competing at all six race weekends, along with their feature race, the B.C. Historic Motor Races, a stand-alone event on the Aug. 19-20 weekend.
