Benefit Hello Happy Soft Blur Foundation

- ALEESHA HARRIS

What it is: A liquid foundation that boasts “optical blurring spheres” to smooth skin and provide a “blurred effect.”

The light-to-medium coverage formula evens out skin tone and blurs imperfections. The “natural finish” foundation diffuses light for filtered effect and is breathable and weightless, according to Benefit product testers.

Available in 12 shades to match practically every skin tone.

What we say: This foundation is seriously lightweight.

Our tester, who has oily-combination skin, was impressed with how well it wore throughout the day — even on a hot summer’s day.

The formula goes on relatively dry and smoothes well onto skin, blending without any obvious lines or settling. Using a synthetic applicator brush, a few drops of the foundation (be sure to shake well before use!) went a long way, covering the entire face and blending down the neck.

The formula goes on a bit sheer and can easily be built up for a more full finish.

We appreciated the selection of shade options, which proved to be easy to navigate thanks to a number system.

Our tester agreed with the press material claims that the formula blurs imperfections. With a medium application of the product, she reported her skin’s scars and imperfections were noticeably smoothed and blurred. The natural finish was soft and not cakey, a nice departure from the matte varieties that can leave skin looking chalky.

Whether worn on its own or with a setting powder over top, this foundation provides nice, comfortable coverage.
