Side Dutch braid is perfect for start of the school year

-

It’s hard to believe we’re already transitioning from summer to back to school. So to make it fun, I’ m demonstrating how to create a lovely side Dutch braid for the start of the school year. This style will definitely get top marks for style.

Start by brushing the hair to ensure there are no knots. To create a thicker and fuller braid, I suggest pre-curling the hair for added texture.

STEP 1

Take a 1 to 2-inch section of the hair (starting above the arch of the left eye) and split it into three sub-sections.

STEP 2

Begin your Dutch braid by bringing the outer section (front piece) under the middle sub-section, then passing the back sub-section under the middle piece to the front.

STEP 3

Repeat the above and begin gathering hair from the front and feed it into the subsection that goes under the middle section. Keep the braid tight, close to the hairline and clean.

STEP 4

Continue braiding in this pattern and once you get to the top of the ear, switch into a classic braiding technique. Secure the ends with a small hair elastic.

STEP 5

Gently pull the braid apart to loosen and widen the braid.

Lift up a section of your loose hair at the back and secure the braid underneath using two bobby pins. This is a great way of camouflaging the bobby pins.
