Actress Kaley Cuoco has likened the heartache she suffered upon learning The Big

Bang Theory was coming to an end to grieving the loss of a loved one.

The star has played Penny on the show since it launched in 2007, but last month, creator and executive producer Chuck Lorre confirmed the 12th season of the hit comedy would be its last.

Cuoco shared her devastation at the news in a tribute on Instagram shortly after the public announcement.

“This ride has been a dream come true and as life changing as it gets,” she wrote. “No matter when it was going to end, my heart would have always been broken in two.”

Cuoco also posted a photo of herself and her castmates, adding: “Drowning in tears, we promise to bring you the best season yet. To the fans, our crew, families, Chuck Lorre, Warner Brothers, CBS, and everyone who has supported us for so many years, thank you. We are goin (sic) out with a bang.”

Now the actress has revealed she cried over the show’s impending end for days, because she really will miss the job which has been a part of her life for over a decade.

“I went through some weird ups and downs,” Cuoco told daytime show The Talk, “almost like someone had died, in a weird way, (it was) like grief. I was just devastated, I couldn’t stop crying for days, and then I was really angry, and now I’m like, ‘OK, we have many more episodes left and we’ve done such an amazing thing...’”

Breaking down in tears, she added, “But the show... is just very special, and it’s totally changed my life.”

In the meantime, Cuoco is hoping Lorre can recruit rocker Jack White to make a guest appearance on the series before the final episode airs in May.

“Wouldn’t that be cool? He’s got kind of a cool, nerd thing going on...,” she explained, before adding, “I’ve been saying this for years. We’re running out of time!”
