Ellen Pompeo has hinted that she may be leaving Grey’s Anatomy.

The 48-year-old, who is currently the highest-paid TV actress, is considering her options with regards to the popular medical drama as the end of her twoyear contract extension is looming.

“I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about what my future is on the show, but I am really feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell,” she confessed to reporters at Entertainment Weekly.

Season 15 of the program debuts on Thursday and Pompeo is seemingly considering walking away from her long-suffering character, Dr. Meredith Grey.

“It’s about time that I mix it up. I’m definitely looking for a change,” the star commented. Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes also admitted she’s written several series finales for the show, only to have it be regularly renewed by ABC network executives.

“I have written the end of the show at least six times,” she told the publication. “But we just don’t end. Every time, I thought, ‘This is how the show should end,’ we’ve gone past those moments, so I’ve stopped trying.”

Back in May, Pompeo revealed she and her fellow co-stars had been speculating on how to end the iconic show, as it had covered so many plotlines.

“Yes, we’re starting to think about how you would end a show this iconic,” she said at the time. “How do you end it? But we’re not there yet. We’re in a contest with ourselves.

How long can we keep this going and still have this level of quality.”
