Whistler’s Celebration of Food and Drink

- MICHELLE HOPKINS

While autumn showcases Whistler’s stunning natural beauty, it’s Cornucopia, presented by BlueShore Financial—the resort’s premier food and drink event—that draws nearly 15,000 guests each year. Now in its twenty-second year, this annual celebration brings together both local and national restaurants and acclaimed chefs, while highlighting the exceptional wines, beers and spirits from Canada and beyond. Cornucopia began as a threeday festival aimed at promoting Whistler’s chefs and restaurateurs during its shoulder season. The resoundingly successful gala has since morphed into an eleven-day party. Opening night kicks off with a signature tasting event, House Party: Best of BC, which features a DJ, culinary delights and drinks, while Whistler producers showcase their smokin’ hot barbecue, locally crafted vodka, micro-brewed beer and more.

This year’s hottest tickets include the flagship Crush Grand Tasting, inviting revellers to enjoy one of the festival’s most inclusive drink events; the Bearfoot Bistro World Oyster Invitational & Bloody Caesar Battle; as well as several highly anticipated Chef’s Table Luncheons, held in some of Whistler’s most luxurious homes, and winemakers’ dinners at some of the resort’s most touted restaurants. New this year is the signature event, ABSTRACT FUTURE: From Now to Eternity at Audain Art Museum. Festivalgoers will enjoy an evening of art, entertainment, food and drink. ABSTRACT is the festival’s newest signature party and it will return annually with different themes. “If anyone has not experienced Cornucopia or has not been for the last few years, now is the time to come back,” says Marc Des Rosiers, director of marketing for the Bearfoot Bistro.

Continued from previous page “It offers such great value and there is something for everyone. The festival program has so many different events.” Other popular happenings include the Night Market: Taste the World, which takes guests on a casual “round the world” tasting of streetstyle cuisine with a selection of beverages to suit.

Cornucopia is presented by BlueShore Financial, and is a partnership between Tourism Whistler, Watermark Communications (the event producer), local restaurants and the community. “Every year, the resort looks forward to coming together to showcase the outstanding culinary scene that you can find in Whistler,” says Des Rosiers.

Cornucopia, Presented by BlueShore Financial happens November 8–18 and tickets are selling fast. Enjoy days filled with wine tastings, winemakers’ dinners, seminars and demonstrations, parties and much more.
