Transit plan does nothing to move people around Surrey
I’d like to thank letter-writer Dan Riordan for reminding us that new Surrey Mayor Doug McCallum’s actual mandate is just under 42 per cent of the total votes. Let’s hope McCallum remembers that and acts accordingly.
I am concerned about the mayor’s transportation plans for Surrey. Replacing the planned LRT with SkyTrain baffles me because the two systems are not interchangeable. The LRT is designed to move the rapidly increasing population of North Surrey within Surrey, while SkyTrain moves people in and out of Surrey. Planned densification along the proposed LRT corridor, which McCallum appeared to endorse in a recent newspaper article, will add a vast number of cars to the traffic. Adding more buses along the same route will also contribute to traffic.
I wonder what McCallum’s plans are to improve transit in the area the LRT would have served? Karen Metzger, Surrey
