All ballots should be secret
Canada was founded on the premise of one person, one vote, by secret ballot. The referendum designers have either forgotten or intentionally ignored the concept of a secret ballot.
This referendum requires the completion of the ballot, inserting it into a folded “secrecy sleeve” and then into a sealed envelope that includes your name, address and birth date. This personal information is purportedly required to assist in voter identification but it means that how a person votes could be determined.
In elections, specific votes cannot be linked to specific individuals. Why the change for this referendum? And they expect us to trust them to come up with a yet-to-be identified plan for electoral reform? Keith Lanphear, Abbotsford
