Activists shutter Battered Wife fish and chip shop
The female owner of an Australian fish and chip shop called The Battered Wife is in the deep fryer over the “inappropriate name”.
And according to media reports, the name has triggered more outrage than a dodgy piece of cod.
Carolyn Kerr has now been forced to close her store in Queensland because of what she calls an “abusive witchhunt.”
Her slogan — “The only battering anyone need know” — was also burned to a crisp by enraged online warriors.
The former police officer was accused of trivializing domestic violence.
Ironically, Kerr told Nine News she herself had been the victim of domestic assault.
“I batter fish, I’m married to my business and I want to make a difference,” she said a number of months ago before her shop came to the attention of the woke.
But finally, the abuse became too much and now she is battening down the store’s hatches for good.
“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that The Battered Wife will cease trading on Monday 28/1,” she wrote in a Facebook post.
“Thank you to all our awesome customers and everyone for your amazing support.”
Kerr said in a video: “As many of you know, I’ve been the subject of an abusive witch-hunt by a not-for-profit organization who are ‘antiabuse.’”
One man posted on the Facebook page: “Great staff and owner. I wish Carolyn all the best. It’s not right what’s been forced on her.”
But the Australian Red Heart Campaign was having none of it, pointing out that 67 women and 18 children were murdered over the previous year.
“There is nothing funny about domestic violence or violence against women. Please boycott this business — it does not deserve your money," the group said in a statement.
The group has denied playing a role in the closure.
