Zuerlein takes a kick at Chinese

ATLANTA — Greg (The Leg) Zuerlein did “a little bit” of kicking at Wednesday’s practice, apparently with no issues to report.

“He’s on track,” said Rams coach Sean McVay.

Zuerlein, the team’s veteran place kicker, played the second half of the NFC Championship game with a strain in his planting foot, a problem he had kept to himself. Didn’t bother him in the overtime winning 48-yarder that pushed the Rams past the Saints and into the Super Bowl.

Zuerlein would like nothing better than another opportunity to come through in the clutch for his team. It’s the kind of stuff he dreamed of growing up, the 31-year old said at the Rams availability Wednesday morning.

“Any time, not just from football but baseball, basketball whatever sport you’re playing at that time, you go home and you’re like, ‘Oh man, I could make that’ or ‘I’m going to be (Michael) Jordan and make this three,’” he said. “Any sport. I think all little kids do that.”

At that point, a TV reporter from China told him that people in their country call Zuerlein “leg Megatron” in Chinese.

He then told Zuerlien that Chinese New Years is next Tuesday and asked him to read a sign into the camera. Zuerlien obliged.

“Hello fans in China” he began. “I’m Tu wi zhèn tin. Wish you guys a happy Chinese New Year and stay tuned to watch the Super Bowl right here. It’s only three days ahead.”
