A Transit Police officer who was shot last week at a SkyTrain station will undergo surgery this week.

Const. Josh Harms shared a statement Monday, thanking his colleagues and the public for the outpouring of support as he begins his recovery.

“I have so many reasons to be grateful, and so many people to thank,” he began. “I’d like to express my gratitude to my policing colleagues; I have received support from many, and am thankful for everyone who has expressed wellwishes.

“In particular, I thank the Metro Vancouver Transit Police, Surrey and Burnaby RCMP, Lower Mainland ERT, the staff at B.C. Ambulance Service and Royal Columbian Hospital.”

Last Wednesday, Harms was working at Scott Road SkyTrain Station when he was shot. He was taken to Royal Columbian Hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after the shooting, police identified 35-year-old Daon Glasgow as a suspect and a widespread manhunt began. On Sunday, Glasgow was arrested in a dramatic early morning takedown at a Burnaby fourplex.

At the time of the shooting Glasgow was on parole after serving time for manslaughter.

He is now being held on an earlier Canada-wide arrest warrant for breach of parole conditions.

Charges have not been laid in the shooting.

In Harms’s statement, he also went on to thank members of the public who expressed their support throughout the ordeal.

“Finally, I would like to express my gratitude to my wife and family.

“I thank God my injuries were not worse.

“Though I have a long road ahead, I am going to make a full recovery and rejoin my colleagues as soon as possible.”
