It’s common to see police or firefighters launch recruitment drives online, but political parties?

For the first time, the B.C. Liberals are embarking on a recruiting drive for potential candidates from around B.C.

Beginning Wednesday, those who want to be considered as a Liberal candidate can apply online at readytorunbc.ca.

The party said, in a news release Wednesday, that women, millennials and B.C’s diverse communities are still under-represented in the legislature. They’re targeting those who may have considered running for office but didn’t know how to get involved.

B.C. Liberal Leader Andrew Wilkinson said they’re looking for individuals from all backgrounds and walks of life.

“Every political party including ours can, and must, do a better job at embracing diversity through merit — especially encouraging millennials, women and under-represented communities to compete for nominations and run as proud B.C. Liberals in the next election, whenever that may be,” he said in a statement.

The move comes days after Wilkinson revealed that at least three members of his caucus have signalled they won’t be running in the next provincial election. It’s unknown which members are going to leave before the next election in 2021.
