PEDERSON (Underwood), Cheryl Gay, 68, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2020 at Eagle Ridge Hospital after a brief valiant battle with cancer. Born in Vancouver on April 27, 1952, Cheryl was one of three daughters born to Elias and Margaret Underwood. The "Underwood girls", as they came to be known, were inseparable throughout their youth. Shortly after graduating from David Thompson Secondary School in 1970, Cheryl married her sweetheart, Victor Pederson, in 1973. They added to their family in the years that followed as they welcomed their son, Chad, into the world and moved to Port Coquitlam. Cheryl remained in the Tri-Cities area throughout the rest of her life. An employee of School District 43 for 28 years, Cheryl provided supervision for various schools in the district, most recently serving at Summit Middle School in Coquitlam. Cheryl was a pillar of support in her family and for all activities that touched her community. She was a volunteer with the Lincoln Elementary Parent Advisory Council, the Terry Fox Dry Grad Organizing Committee and PoCo Minor Baseball. Cheryl is survived by her loving husband of 47 years, Victor, son Chad, daughter-in-law Beverly, grandson Cooper, mother Margaret, and sisters Twyla and Darcy. She was predeceased by her father Elias. She will be remembered as a generous soul who had a particularly special connection with children. She was known as a listener and a problem solver, and her kindness extended to everyone who had the fortune of knowing her. A family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in her memory to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation or BC Cancer Foundation.
