Fitness finds to elevate your at-home workout wear

- ALEESHA HARRIS Aharris@postmedia.com

If your at-home workout wear could use a bit of a boost, you’re in luck. There are a few fashionable new releases on the market that are sure to add some interest to said active attire, even if you only wear them while lounging around at home.

From colourful, compressive pieces made from recycled plastic, to a seriously luxe piece of outerwear that will elevate even the shortest of walks around the block, here are three athletic-inspired pieces that caught our attention this week.

LUXE LAYER

Part of a new five-piece capsule collection called Branta from the Toronto-based company Canada Goose, this Clara Trench Coat is the ultimate example of fashion meets function. Said to be “inspired by The Art of Light and explores the interplay between light, art and function,” it is created in partnership with American artist James Clar, the collection pieces are designed to provide protection (and style) in spring and summer weather. We’re particularly taken with the cool removable “Canada Goose” belt on this trench coat, which adds an element of unexpected polish to the piece.

SUSTAINABLE SOLES

Part shoe, part sustainable superstar, these sneakers, dubbed The Dasher, mark the first foray into “performance” sneakers for the

San Francisco-based brand Allbirds. Available in four colours — Geyser, Cyclone, Flame and Thunder — the shoes are crafted from sustainable elements such as sugarcane, eucalyptus and merino wool. The footwear finds are also labelled with a carbon output that is said to be lower than an average sneaker. $175 | Allbirds.ca

INCLUSIVE ATTIRE

Break the all-black workout wear habit with some stylish separates from the Seattle-based company Girlfriend Collective. The line uses water bottles collected from the ocean to create its recycled polyester pieces, which include the Paloma bra and compression leggings. In addition to offering cute, colourful options that are supportive and sweat-wicking — not to mention sustainably minded — the company’s collection is also size-inclusive, offering activewear options for sizes XXS to 6XL.
