LOCKEN, Rosa Marie (Crandell)

-

July 8,1932 - May 5, 2020 We are heartbroken by the passing of our beautiful and immensely loved Rosa Marie on May 5, 2020 with children Brent, Karen and Scott by her side. Rosa Marie was predeceased by her life-long friend and loving husband of 66 years Henry Locken (2019). She will be dearly missed by her beloved twin sister, Betty Lou Graham, treasured grandchildren Christopher (Terri), Nicole, Zachary, Dylon, their mother Karen Bliss, precious great-grandchildren Braden, Alexis, Aaliyah and cherished nephew and nieces Craig, Luanne, Donna, Carol, Lori and families. Rosa Marie’s greatest joy was spending time with family and many friends, whom she valued and loved unconditionally.

Rosa Marie was born in Ocean Falls, BC to parents Howard and Lou Crandell and when the twins were 8, the family moved to the Fraser Mills Townsite (now Coquitlam), where she attended Millside Elementary and Duke of Connaught Schools. Rosa Marie met Henry in grade 3, but it was during the 1948 Fraser River flood their story began. They married May 21, 1953 and together created a wonderful and fulfilling life. After raising her family, Rosa began her perfect job in the Jewellery Department at Hudson’s Bay, Coquitlam, which she enjoyed for almost 20 years.

Rosa Marie’s passions (besides shopping), were sports and travelling. A competitive swimmer in her youth and again as a Senior winning 5 medals in her only BC Summer Games, playing basketball with the Fraser Cafe Team, curling, skiing and golfing. She was also an enthusiastic and very knowledgeable sports fan! Rosa and Henry enjoyed many vacations and cruises with family and friends and she loved the history of the countries they visited.

A remarkable lady; wise, an abundance of patience, thoughtful and an unrivalled memory. During Rosa Marie’s recent cancer journey, she showed strength, grace, consideration, a positive outlook and sense of humour. Rosa Marie was the embodiment of a life well lived (fully) and will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by those she touched with her kindness and generosity.

Our heartfelt gratitude to Dr. D. Eddy, Dr. P. Lim, Dr. C. Mariano, Crossroads Inlet Hospice and Astoria Senior Living. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Rosa Marie’s name to New View Society, 2050 Mary Hill Road, Port Coquitlam, BC V3C 2Z8. Due to COVID-19 and for the continued well-being of many friends, there will be no Celebration of Life. Rosa Marie will be honoured with a family dinner.
