SCHULTZ, Joyce

-

Oct. 13, 1932 - May 9, 2020 Born in Indonesia Joyce had a carefree childhood until the Japanese occupation of the country. For five years she was a prisoner of war. Having barely survived, the family moved to Holland. There she met Bob at dance school, also a survivor of the occupation. They married and in the early 1950s they emigrated to Canada. Young and lonely, Joyce nevertheless bravely made the most of her new life and became a good friend to many and a devoted mother.

Joyce struggled all her life with fears yet had a sense of fun. She was happiest when dancing, whether it be to Dixieland jazz, tango, or Zydeco music and found joy in stylish clothing and was seldom seen without her rings and treasured jewelry. She was always up for a fierce game of Scrabble or a drive through Stanley Park. She loved watching her grandchildren grow up and took pride in all their accomplishments. Late in life Joyce moved to White Rock Seniors Village so she could receive 24 hour care, and this is also where she passed peacefully. The family thanks the many staff members who provided compassionate care, comfort, and friendship.

Joyce was pre-deceased by her exhusband and by her beloved daughterin-law Jane. She is survived by her brother Rob, son Randy (Sally), daughter Lindy (David), grandchildren Julie (Nick), Michael (Anna-Luise), Heather (Tommy), Erik (Ashley), and Dylan, and by great-grandchildren Aidan, Sawyer, and Evelyn and nieces Sharon and Monique (Grant) and greatnieces Miya, Callie, Hailey, and Jordyn. She loved us all and we will all miss her and remember her with love forever. Joyce's wishes were for a simple cremation and for her ashes to reside with her children so she could continue to be part of their lives.

In lieu of flowers the family wishes only that everyone reading this will live their life guided by love, peace, and understanding.
