PNE holds drive-thru Car-B-Q to support concessionaires
The PNE is on-hold because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s still hosting fun events like a drive-thru Car-B-Q just in time for the Father’s Day weekend. The Car-B-Q, which supports the PNE and small Canadian concessionaires struggling with the economic fallout of the pandemic, runs from Thursday to Sunday at Hastings Park.
It features the two Canadian concessionaires from the annual Fair Ribfest area, the Smith family of Ontario with Gator’s Barbecue and the Reinhardt family of Saskatchewan with Prairie Smoke.
There will also be other comfort foods usually available at the PNE like Reel Mac and Cheese or poutine from The Fry Guys.
The PNE will also host the first indoor drive-thru car show, presented by 360 Fabrication of Abbotsford. Attendees will drive across the Pacific Coliseum floor where they will see dozens of classic, vintage, muscle and hot rods from across the region on display, according to a PNE news release Wednesday.
Attendees will need to buy tickets online first but they can pick their day, time and favourite rib concessionaire and sides in advance through TicketLeader.ca. Social-distancing protocols developed in consultation with Vancouver Coastal Health will be adhered to throughout the weekend event, the PNE said.
Ticket purchases include two tickets to the opening day of the 2021 PNE Fair. Prices are: $29 for one rack of ribs (plus two tickets to the 2021 Fair), and sides of mac and cheese or poutine can be bought for $12 each. Entrance to the drive-thru car show is free with your food purchase.
